Hi There, I'm trying to learn how to use Power BI. To do this I have started taking the training course from Microsoft titled 'Get Started with Power BI'. Currently in the first module titled 'Explore what Power BI can do for you'. I've gotten to unit #5 in this module 'Find and view dashboards and reports'. To complete this unit I am supposed to go to https://app.powerbi.com and download an app starting with 'Microsoft Sample -' by searching 'Sales & Marketing' After following the instructions and searching using the above term I found myself at a blank window with the result 'No results found'. I've also searched under the term 'Microsoft Sample' and gotten the same result. Is the training course/module/unit I'm taking still current? If not, what is the current Microsoft course for learning how to use Power BI? If so, is there an error in Unit 5 of Module 1? If not, what am I doing wrong / where do I find the above mentioned app? After selecting "Get Apps," you can search by entering "Sales and Marketing." You will then find the app and the PBIX file. To install the app, select it. If you want to open the PBIX file "Sales and Marketing," select the PBIX file.

Hi Syed,

Thanks for your response.

I have followed your instructions. The one difference between your instructions and the instructions in the training module is the use of the word 'and' instead of the symbol '&'.

When I searched under 'Sales and Marketing' instead of 'Sales & Marketing' I got the following results.

As you can see, the app that the training asks me to select is not there. Note when I searched using the term 'Sales & Marketing' I did not even get these six apps.

I have downloaded Power BI Desktop and opened it to try to follow your alternate instructions. When I click on the 'Open' tab though I don't see any option which would lead me to access the 'Sales and Marketing' file.

Am I still doing something wrong? If not, why can't I access the file?

Hi Syed,

Thanks for your response. It looks like you are trying to show how the 'Sales and Marketing' file can be accessed via Power BI Desktop. I've tried to follow the steps you show but there is no 'Sales and Marketing' PBIX file in my downloads (see screenshot below).

TBH I don't find this surprising as I've never had any visibility to this file when trying to access it via the online 'version' of Power BI or Power BI desktop.

I am located in Canada is access to the 'Sales & Marketing' file restricted here?

Hello Luke Russell,

I recommend reaching out to your IT or admin team to verify if there are any access limitations due to location-based restrictions within your organization's network.

Alternatively, if accessing this specific sample remains a challenge, you can try downloading other sample PBIX files from Microsoft’s https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/create-reports/sample-sales-and-marketing?source=recommendations page. This site offers a variety of sample files that can be directly imported into Power BI Desktop, often bypassing regional limitations in the Power BI Service.

Once downloaded, move the 'Sales & Marketing' PBIX file to a dedicated folder for easy access, open it in Power BI Desktop to explore or customize as needed, and you can then publish it to the Power BI Service to begin working with the data from scratch.

OK I think I was able to find the file using the link you provided. Looks like I had to click on the Learn tab on the navigation bar, not the Apps tab. Thank you for directing me here, hopefully I can continue on with the course without any more issues.

Whoever is in charge of the course should make the necessary changes to the text. This simple error ended up wasting both your and my time and created frustration. This only reinforces negative feelings I have towards the Microsoft brand.

This has nothing to do with you and the service you provided. Your help in figuring out what to do next is very much appreciated.
