Azure OpenAI Studio -> add your data: cannot select text-embedding-3-large

Question

I have deployed the text-embedding-3-large model, and the provisioning state shows as Succeeded. In Azure Search, I can select text-embedding-3-large for vectorizing text when using the "import and vectorize data" feature. However, in Azure OpenAI Studio, when using the "add your data" feature with Azure Blob Storage as the data source, I can only select text-embedding-ada-002.

Is text-embedding-3-large not supported in Azure OpenAI Studio yet? I haven't found any information about this in the documentation.

I understand your concern regarding the model availability long back and not showing under Own data scenario.

As Rohit and Sina Mentioned, This is not available yet.

I'm also seeing the same behavior though I have the text-embedding-3-large model deployment.

When it does become available, I hope it will be announced in the news section. Scanning blogs for such updates is quite inefficient and unreliable.

I have checked further internally and there is no exact ETA which can be shared currently. I would suggest you, kindly follow What's new in Azure OpenAI Service page for more updates.

I understand that you have an issue where Azure OpenAI Studio -> add your data: cannot select text-embedding-3-large.

As romungi-MSFT, have said and while waiting for Microsoft Internal. This limitation is due to the integration timeline for new models, which can take a few months before permanent fix, and for the fact that the text-embedding-3-large model is indeed not yet supported in Azure OpenAI Studio for the "add your data" feature https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ai-services/openai/concepts/models and https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ai-services/openai/tutorials/embeddings.

I will advise you:

1. Keep an eye on Azure OpenAI Service updates and announcements for when the text-embedding-3-large model becomes available in Azure OpenAI Studio - https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/ai-azure-ai-services-blog/announcing-new-capabilities-for-azure-openai-on-your-data/ba-p/4144636
