How do I completely disallow storing files locally in OneDrive?

Hi, the task is to disallow locally stored files in onedrive application, both personal disk and sharings files. In other words, after closing a file it should not be available offline and always display the cloud sign. This way, if there is no internet access the user will not reopen it.

Using the web version is not suitable, using the Use OneDrive Files On-Demand feature is not suitable, it only prohibits downloading all files, and previously opened ones are saved.

The logic is the same as for an SMB drive - no internet access, you can't open the drive and the files in it, you need to do something like this.

Are there any settings in Intune? Or better for all users regardless of device-admin panel onedrive

    Hi @Bill Line

Currently, there is no relevant setting that fully achieves your needs. OneDrive is designed as a tool can sync files on different devices, not a simple cloud backup tool.

One idea: Enable the Files On-Demand feature via group policy, and then run script for files that already exist locally, and files opened later (Online-only file will be download to your device when you open it.) to free up space.

Here is a thread that users shared their scripts to free up space: https://www.reddit.com/r/SCCM/comments/aev7le/force_users_onedrive_to_free_up_space_with/

Or if you want to restrict the IP addresses that can access OneDrive, you may allow access only from IP addresses that your organization owns via "Network Location" in Access control in the SharePoint admin center.

But if you want to get the assistance from Intune, you may post a new thread with "Microsoft Intune" tag in Q&A. Thanks for your understandings.

Hope the information could be helpful.
