Does Azure AI Document Intelligence Use Groundings or Embeddings?

Hello all -

I have a client that is asking about embeddings and groundings within the Document Intelligence solution. Does it utilize these concepts? They are being asked by their compliance / governance team. I found this article below online, but I believe this is OUTSIDE of the Azure AI document intelligence solution and in the Open AI one instead that someone is using for comparison.

Thanks much!

    Hi Andrew Murphy,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum, thank you for posting your query here!

Azure AI Document Intelligence focuses on tasks like form recognition, entity extraction, and layout analysis. While it does not explicitly mention using groundings or embeddings, these techniques may be part of its internal architecture to support semantic understanding and contextual processing.

The linked article demonstrates how embeddings can be integrated externally with Azure Document Intelligence, but this is not a built-in feature of the solution. It represents a custom workflow rather than a native capability.

For compliance and governance concerns, Azure Document Intelligence ensures data security through certifications like ISO/IEC 27001, GDPR, and HIPAA. Custom models can also be trained to meet specific compliance requirements.

Hope this helps. Do let us know if you any further queries.
