I can't log in Azure Portal

Hi everybody,
I probably messed up my Azure account and now I'm unable to log in.

My Azure account used an email account that I wanted to sunset so I tried to change it to a new one.

After the update I'm in this situation:

  • I can't log in with the old email account because it's not a valid Microsoft account anymore
  • using the new email account I can type the email then password, but I'm stuck with the auth code because it's not sent to the email address shown (something like abc****@xyz.com)*

There must be something misconfigured in my 2FA because I can access other Microsoft pages with the new email account if they don't require the auth code. I even tried to recover the account, I succesfully received the auth code to change the password on abc***@xyz.com but after that no other email was received.

I checked the mail server logs, no message was blocked.

How can I get back into Azure Portal?

    Hello @Paolo,

Thank you for connecting offline to resolve your issue. Below are the steps we performed to help you log in to your Azure Portal:

The initial issue was that you were unable to log in to the Azure Portal using your Azure-admin account, as you were prompted to verify your identity via an SMS/email OTP. Upon troubleshooting, we identified that on the verification screen, you needed to enter your security-registered email address to proceed. After entering the email address, you successfully received the OTP code via email and were able to log in to the Azure Portal.

To prevent similar lockouts in the future, we created a backup account and assigned it the necessary rights at both the tenant and subscription levels. We also confirmed the setup by logging in with the new account, verifying all assigned permissions, and ensuring that everything was configured correctly.

I hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.
