Basic SKU public IP retirement Databricks query

With the Retirement Announcement - Basic SKU Public IP addresses will be retired on 30 September 2025 is there any change that needs to be made to Azure Databricks workers? Currently we've got a number of workers that auto scale which all use Basic SKU. Just wondering if I need to change something in Databricks to change workers to use Standard SKU instead of Basic or is this something that will be done on the MS side?

    Hi @Matty Burn

Greetings & Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum! Thanks for posting your query!

The retirement of Basic SKU public IP addresses on September 30, 2025, means that you will need to upgrade your Azure Databricks workers that currently use Basic SKU to Standard SKU. This change is not automatically handled by Microsoft, so you will need to take action to ensure that your Databricks workers are using Standard SKU public IPs before the retirement date. It is advisable to plan for this upgrade as part of your infrastructure management.

Yes, changes will likely be needed to your Azure Databricks workers if they are currently using Basic SKU Public IPs. With the retirement of Basic SKU Public IPs on September 30, 2025, you must transition your Databricks workers to use Standard SKU Public IPs to ensure continuity of service.

Currently we've got a number of workers that auto scale which all use Basic SKU. Just wondering if I need to change something in Databricks to change workers to use Standard SKU instead of Basic or is this something that will be done on the MS side?

The change to use Standard SKU instead of Basic SKU for public IPs will not be done automatically by Microsoft in the case of your Azure Databricks workers. You will need to manually change the configuration of your Azure Databricks workers to use Standard SKU public IPs, especially if your workers are auto-scaling and currently using Basic SKU.
