Question regarding Azure storage/AzSync

We have a folder lets say C:\temp it is currently being backed up to blob storage/file share.

We need to move it so its backing up for example H:\DBTemp

In my sifting from what I can see, We will have to uninstall and re-install the agent at a different directory.

From what I can tell, it should retain the already existing backups that are stored in the azure blob/file storage.

But I have heard conflicting things. So I guess what i'm looking for is confirmation that uninstalling and removing an agent from a server, then re-installing and having it copy a different directory - Will it retain the pre-existing files that have already been backed up, in their same structure?

So for example the C:\temp files would remain untouched and intact on the azure blob end. And H:\dbtemp would also be backed up (into a different directory i guess?) on the azure blob end.

Thanks!

-Shaun

    Hi Shaun M ,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum, thank you for posting your query here!
Backups are retained according to the retention settings configured in the backup policy, and they remain intact even if the agent is uninstalled and reinstalled,
Uninstalling and reinstalling the Azure Backup MARS agent should not affect the existing backups stored in Azure Blob Storage,
I suggest few steps to consider.
Existing Backups: The backups already stored in Azure Blob Storage will remain untouched and intact. They are managed by the Azure Backup service and are not dependent on the local agent installation
New Backup Configuration: When you reinstall the MARS agent and configure it to back up a different directory (e.g., H:\DBTemp), it will create a new backup job for this directory. The new backups will be stored in a separate directory within the Azure Blob Storage

Retention of Old Backups: The old backups (e.g., from C:\temp) will continue to be retained according to the retention policy that was in place at the time of the last backup. You can still restore these files if needed
Ensure that you configure the new backup policy correctly after reinstalling the agent to include the new directory you want to back up
