Hi,

I cannot change the brightness setting on my laptop (using Windows 10). The change brightness slider is active but nothing changes. The screen brightness remains the same if I set the brightness to 2% or to 100%.

Not sure if this is related to Windows update but, after the las update (on ‎18.‎05.‎2018), because the screen was too dark, I tried to change the brightness and found out that the I can't do it.

    Hello,

    Please see the below options:

Option 1.Try Rolling back if you have an option:

Go to Device Manager by typing in Devmgmt.msc in Run dialog box.

Navigate to Display devices and right click ATI Radeon HD or Similar device you have. Choose Properties.

On the Driver tab, hit rollback Driver to go back to the previous version.

Option 2. Remove drivers completely and Install the the newest ones available from the OEM or the maker.

    What you need to do:

    1. Uninstall everything of Display driver using DDU

    http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-dri...

    1. Reboot.
    2. Make sure your device manager shows Microsoft Basic Display adapter.
    3. Download the driver from the OEM or the maker like AMD

5.Run the Setup and you should be good to go.

Please try these options one by one and check after each option.

    1. Use the Hardware & Devices Troubleshooter

Type Troubleshoot in Windows Start Search box > Click Troubleshoot > Scroll down & Click Hardware & Devices > Click Run the Troubleshooter & follow on-screen directions > Restart the computer after troubleshooting is completed

    1. This will not correct the problem but will provide relief - Right click on battery icon in Task bar > Power options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > Expand Display > Check the values under Display brightness, Dimmed display brightness and Enable adaptive brightness
    2. Take actions related to Display Driver

Windows Key+X > Click Device Manager > Expand Display Adapter > Right click on entry below >

    A. Rollback the Driver

Click Properties > Go to Driver tab > If there is rollback option, click it

    B. Uninstall the Driver

Uninstall > Reboot the computer > The driver will be installed automatically when you restart

    C. Update the driver

Click Update Driver Software > Click Browse my computer for driver software > Click Let my pick from a list of device drivers on my computer > Choose the driver > Click Next to update > If this does not work, select Search automatically for the updated driver in place of Browse my computer for driver software > Restart your computer

    D. Update driver from manufacturer's website

Go to the website of the display adapter's manufacturer or computer's manufacturer > See if some driver is released for your model and OS > If yes, download that > In previous option, you click Update Driver Software, in place of this, click Uninstall > Install the downloaded driver > Restart your computer

Althought there are already replies in this problem, I must contribute my thoughts to this issue. I have the same brightness settings trouble which emerge after win update versio 1803. Since this update yesterday my display brightness stucked in 100 %, so I can say this case prevents efficiently my working. I can´t lower the brightness of a display anymore but I try to repair this issue from the instructions which Community Advisors gave. Again, it´s very possible that I can´t fix this problem by myself because I´m not technologically oriented i.e doesn´t understand all instructions.

So, what I want to do is to phrase a dark concern to all update troubles which are very frequent nowadays and all customers are not able to solve these kind of problems by themselves. This is not the only time when this kind of error emerge after updating

    • some kind of troubles occurs frequently. Human/Computer colife with operating system becomes harder and harder. Let alone aged persons who doesn´t have any digital age skills. When this kind of problems occurs for example after updating, there is necessarily no one who is helping older people. However there might be no way to live without properly fuctioning devices in the digitized society.

Before I give troubleshooting steps, I would request you to provide following information -

    A. What is your computer's make and model? For example Lenovo T470

    B. What is the Windows version and build? (To check this, type winver in Windows Start Search box and click winver)
