MS Teams and Former External users/IDs and typeahead/Autocomplete/Autosuggest

In using MS Teams, the typeahead/autocomplete/autosuggest feature pulls up old information regarding team members to include in the chat.  Please see the following examples.  Both Sheri and Dan were at one time external resources.  They are now part of our internal team.  In MS Teams, however, their old IDs continue to be pulled up for selection.  Those external users/IDs have been removed via the Microsoft Team Admin Center.

Additionally, chats where those external users/IDs are included are treated as “External” chats (see attachment) even though I have replaced the external users/IDs with the new internal users/IDs and copied over all of the chat history.  This is very frustrating because we cannot attach files (along with other limitations) since MS Teams thinks this is an external chat.

How do I remove these users/IDs such that other team members to not reference those incorrect entries for chats, messages, meetings, etc.?

Thank you in advance for your help with this.

    Hi @Stephen Doggette

According to your case description, the previous external user information is still saved in your Teams. According to the documentation, if the information of the external federated contact is currently cached on your computer, the contact may be displayed in the search results.

Therefore, it is recommended that you clear the Teams cache.

For the question: Delete these users/IDs so that other team members do not refer to these wrong entries in chats, messages, meetings, etc.?

Sorry to tell you, deleting these is a cumbersome process, the easy way is to hide them.

If you really need to delete an employee's entire Teams chat history, please refer to the retention strategy provided in this post. Thanks for your understanding and patience.
