Creating an Outlook Add-in to Function Like the Send Button

Is it possible to create an Outlook Add-in that has a button to call a function, invoke a REST endpoint, and then send the email?

I am curious if this can be achieved, as I have not found any direct resources on this topic.

Additionally, I have come across the ItemSend event—is this the right approach to accomplish the desired functionality?
