i'm trying to assign a private connector to a specific connector group programmatically, but it appears the only way is via the UI in the entra portal from my research.

Yes, you are right. As of now, assigning a private connector to a specific connector group programmatically in Microsoft Entra Private Access is not directly supported through APIs or PowerShell commands. The Entra portal UI remains the primary method for such configurations.
