We are having issues with google chrome since last 2 months. Chrome only opens up for the first time and after that it stops opening. You click on the chrome it just doesnt open.
These are the steps that have already been done:
-installed chrome beta, works fine.

  • Uninstalled Chrome Beta. -
Downloaded and installed Google Chrome version 86.0.4240.111.
This is the most recent version released on October 20, 2020 in response to a 0-day vulnerability. - The first time I tried opening Chrome I was able to open and use it. Upon closing it that ability was gone. Clicking the icon did not initiate a process in the Task Manager. Chrome opened after many clicks and I was unable to open it again after closing it. -
Downloaded and installed Microsoft Edge. This is based off Chromium the same as Chrome. It opened easily without any issues almost instantly. - Changed the shortcut settings so Chrome ran in a maximized and minimized window setting. Both didn't work.
  • Repaired Chrome post the installation of Edge. Same issue. - Added the Microsoft Sandbox feature to the computer. - Restarted the computer. - Opened Chrome successfully. - Checked the processes and found 4 Chrome processes. -
Noticed Chrome opens after multiple clicks and open actual Chrome processes for each click. - Looked in to the above issue and it was suggested the issue is related to an old Chrome bug where Chrome opens the first time ok and for some reason closes leaving a process in the background.
  • Installed Chrome on MS Sandbox. - Opened and closed Chrome multiple times in the Sandbox without any issues. -
Checked for Chrome software conflicts (chrome://conflicts). - Ran Chrome in Compatibility mode based on an article I found. Same issue.
  • Started installing a Windows 10 update (KB4579311). - Restarted the computer. Same issue.
-installed chromev87, still getting the same error, when I check task manager, google chrome has multiple processes running.
I would appreciate some suggestions regarding the issue, I believe it might be related to windows version

thanks

I'd try asking for help in google chrome forums.

Windows update should not affect google chrome but I'd ask here to confirm.
