iOS device stuck pending wipe - issue with mobile data?

Hi.

Have an iOS device that was onboarded in the last month. Was recently handed in. Device wipe was initiated, but has been pending since. It's offsite, but the local admin has noticed it's not on wifi. Can't enable wifi because the device is locked. Can't unlock the device because all other options in InTune are greyed out since pending Wipe.

Does this make sense to more seasoned users? I don't have any policies in place preventing Mobile Data, and afaik these actions SHOULD commit over mobile data.

Can this wipe be cancelled? Other thoughts?

Thanks

@Ben Jenkins Thanks for posting in our Q&A.

For this issue, this iOS device doesn't connect to internet. It will remain in Wipe Pending state until the MDM certificate expires.

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/mem/intune/device-management/troubleshoot-device-actions#what-happens-if-i-start-a-retirewipe-on-an-offline-device-or-a-device-that-hasnt-communicated-with-the-service-in-a-while

Based on my understanding, there is no method to cancel wipe action.

    Thanks for your understanding.
