Copying and pasting from a Microsoft Teams chat window no longer includes the sender's name and timestamp.

Starting today February 19 2025, right after a Teams update, I'm no longer able to copy/paste my chat logs into my service tickets. As a level1 tech, this is an absolute necessity for accurate record keeping.

I've tried the <ctrl>+C and <ctrl>+v as has worked in the past as well when MS saw it in their infinite wisdom to arbitrarily change a feature used by many in our field. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

In case anyone wants to offer the 'use Zoom' work-around. It has been considered, but Teams fits better overall with our ecosystem. Thanks in advance.

Microsoft claim leaving out this information "reduces clutter". I'm sure it reduces the amount of code they maintain.

Lately the work-around on the work-around (not releasing mouse on select, ctrl-c copy, and then select all to get the control info of the whole conversation - that no longer works) now I sometimes get no invisible info (completely lost most timestamps and seconds) - it is definitely getting "less cluttered" for Microsoft.

And there is nothing we can do about it - I think they don't listen to feedback (or only make token changes or comments, or actually make unexpected and very retrograde changes). And this is from a person who has contributed to feedbackportal for a while, and often.

Reddit post gave me a good answer for small message threads.

    1. Open Snipping Tool
    2. Take a snip of the conversation thread
    3. Use the Text Actions button to convert the visible text to OCR

You have the option to copy all of the text or click and highlight part of the text.

You need to do this several times if the thread is longer, and there is more noise but it works quickly. Perfect for a short conversation where you need to record an approval or document a decision.

I started using Microsoft's PowerToy's Text Extractor to work around this poor decision.

How is copying all the information worse then copying part of the information? You can always delete the extra, you can't copy what it won't allow you to copy....

    Hi @Jay Ryan

Sorry to hear this, this is most likely a fix made by Microsoft in a recent update. Because before this, there was feedback from users that it was easy to copy the wrong timestamp information when copying.

If you still need the original copy function, or want both copy functions as options, please submit feedback in Microsoft Feedback. Many features of our current products are designed and upgraded based on customers’ feedback. With requirements like this increase, the problem may well be released in the future.

Thanks for your understanding and support.

    Sorry to hear that,

    There's not solution a least you use transcript or;

Also did you try reinstalling teams or using an older version? In my case I'm still able to copy and paste with all info. probably because I'm still using an older version.

I hope this work for you.
