I’m locked out of my Microsoft 365 Developer account due to an incorrect MFA prompt for Outlook instead of Authenticator. I have backup email and phone access but can’t sign in. How can I fix this?

Subject: Locked Out of Microsoft 365 Developer Account Due to Incorrect MFA Prompt Dear Microsoft Support Team / Moderators, I am facing a critical issue accessing my Microsoft 365 Developer Account (******@740hd6.onmicrosoft.com). This issue seems to be caused by a misconfigured Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) prompt that is preventing me from signing in.

Issue Description:

I recently changed my Microsoft 365 Developer Admin account password due to a security breach alert. The password reset was successful, and I was able to update my credentials without any issues.

My Microsoft Authenticator app is still linked to my account, and I have always used it for two-factor authentication (2FA). However, when I attempt to log in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center or any other Microsoft service, it unexpectedly prompts me to approve the sign-in request via the Outlook mobile app instead of Microsoft Authenticator.

The issue is that I am not logged into the Outlook app, and I cannot approve the sign-in request because it requires me to first log in—creating an authentication loop that I cannot escape.

I never set up Outlook Mobile App as a 2FA method, so this behavior is unexpected and incorrect.

What I Have Tried So Far (Unsuccessful Attempts):

Tried Resetting MFA Using Security Info Page

Attempted to access https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info. This also required me to authenticate using the same incorrect Outlook prompt.

Tried Using Alternative Sign-In Methods

I have an additional email address and phone number linked to my Microsoft account.

Microsoft allows me to reset my password through my linked email, but when I attempt to sign in, it still insists on verifying through the Outlook app.

Tried Accessing Microsoft 365 Admin Recovery Options

Visited https://admin.microsoft.com and attempted account recovery. It still directs me to approve the sign-in via Outlook, which I cannot do.

Tried Microsoft Account Recovery Form

Submitted a request at https://account.live.com/acsr, but since I still have access to my email and phone, it does not allow me to reset MFA.

Tried Reaching Microsoft Support

Most support options require me to sign in, which is exactly the issue I am facing.

The automated support system directs me to standard recovery options that require authentication via the incorrect Outlook prompt.

Urgent Assistance Required:

Since I still have access to my linked email and phone number, I believe there should be an alternative way to verify my identity and restore my account access. I kindly request: ✔ A manual MFA reset so I can log in using my Microsoft Authenticator app. ✔ An alternative verification method (email or phone OTP) to bypass the incorrect Outlook prompt. ✔ Escalation to a support team that can manually override the incorrect MFA setting. Additional Information for Support Team: Microsoft 365 Developer Account Email: ******@740hd6.onmicrosoft.com

Primary MFA Method (Before Issue): Microsoft Authenticator

Unexpected MFA Prompt: Outlook Mobile App (which I never set up)

Linked Email & Phone: Yes, I can receive password reset emails and verification codes.

This issue is urgent, and I would appreciate immediate assistance to regain access to my account. Please provide the necessary steps or escalate this request to a higher-tier support team that can manually review and reset the incorrect authentication method.

Best Regards,

Sami Ullah
