Windows Server 2019 product key reusable?

Hello there,

the following situation with a Windows Server 2019 server:

The OS SSD has failed irrecoverably.

Unfortunately, there is no working backup to recover from.

A new SSD will be installed and an installation from scratch will be performed.

Will there be any trouble with activation using the same Windows Server 2019 Standard OEM product key? The only configuration change will be the changed system (OS) disk.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Michael

    Hi Michael6896

If you replaced your SSD but still use the same machine, you can try activating Windows Server with your original OEM product key.

OEM activation means that the pre-installed Windows operating system has already been activated when the computer is purchased. The activation key is tied to the computer hardware and can only be used on preinstalled computers and not on other computers. If there are no major hardware changes, such as replacing the motherboard, etc., you can still activate with the original OEM key after reinstalling the system.

    Hope it helps.

    Kind regards,

    Lei

    Thank you!

Actually this machine has been shipped with Windows 10 Pro. The Windows Server 2019 Standard OEM license has been ordered separately.

    Regards

    Michael
