We are trying to install patch for our production environment on windows server Microsoft SharePoint Server Security Update for December 2024. However are unable to get done as it indicates that KB5002657 is not installed due to it stuck in last point after that it is populating error message as failed , preventing us from executing PowerShell commands due to the same issue.

Please help out with this issue.

    Hello,

Here are some steps you can try:

1.Running the update troubleshooter. Select Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Windows Update > Run the troubleshooter.

2.Manually downloading the updates from Microsoft Update Catalog.

3.Restarting the update services. You can do this by using the Services tool (services.msc) and stopping and starting the following services: Windows Update, Background Intelligent Transfer Service, Cryptographic Services, Windows Installer.

4.Check if there is enough disk space available on your system drive. If not, free up some space and try the update again.

    5.Manually reset windows update components:

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop cryptsvc

    net stop bits

    net stop msiserver

    ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

    ren C: \Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

    net start wuauserv

    net start cryptsvc

    net start bits

    net start msiserver
