I'm receiving an error when trying to connect to a network share setup with anonymous logon

Hello,

I'm receiving this error message when trying to access a network share setup with anonymous logon from a Windows 11 computer.

"You can't access this shared folder because your organization's security policies block unauthenticated guest access. These policies help protect your pc from unsafe or malicious devices on the network".

I have the same exact security policies setup on my Windows 10 computer, and I can access the share without issue. I searched forums endlessly to no available looking for a solution.

I've already made these changes that were suggested for Windows 11. If there are any other suggestions, it would be much appreciated as I've spent many hours looking for a solution.

  • Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Network > Lanman Workstation.
  • Enable Insecure Guest Logons:
    • Find the policy named "Enable insecure guest logons."
    • Double-click on the policy to open its settings.
    • Set it to "Enabled."
    • Click Apply and then OK.
  • HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters
    • "AllowInsecureGuestAuth"
    • Value set to 1

I've figured out my issue. I needed to disable this policy "Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always)".

    Hello,

Based on the information you provided, I suggest you open the Group Policy Editor and navigate to the following location: Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options, configure "Account: Guest Account Status" to "Enabled" and restart the computer to see if the problem can be solved.

I hope the above information is helpful to you.

    Best Regards

    Zunhui

I signed in just to thank you.
I've tried editing the registry and the group policy as mentioned above and in multiple other posts and nothing seemed to worked, till your solution.

It kept me busy multiple hours and after two reloads, I came across your post.

    THANK YOU
