- To determine who initiated a restart or shutdown, you can examine the Event Logs. Specifically, look for event ID 1074 in the System log. You’ll see a list of shutdown (reboot) events. The event with User32 as the source indicates the user who initiated the restart.
- If the system is in a sleep or hibernation state, a graceful reboot request won’t work. You’ll need to wake the system first.
If there are active users logged in, the system will prompt them to save their work or close applications before restarting.
If there are hardware or software issues, the reboot process might not proceed as expected.
