While trying graceful reboot (Using redfish) on Windows Server 2022 OS/ 2019 OS, the OS is not restarting. Is there a way we can check if the OS has accepted/rejected the request ?

Also, can we know if there are specific scenarios like if the OS is not having any active users logged in or is in sleep state, the request is rejected ?

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

Based on the description, I understand your question is related to reboot Server 2022 OS/ 2019 OS.

    1. To determine who initiated a restart or shutdown, you can examine the Event Logs. Specifically, look for event ID 1074 in the System log. You’ll see a list of shutdown (reboot) events. The event with User32 as the source indicates the user who initiated the restart.
    2. If the system is in a sleep or hibernation state, a graceful reboot request won’t work. You’ll need to wake the system first.

If there are active users logged in, the system will prompt them to save their work or close applications before restarting.

If there are hardware or software issues, the reboot process might not proceed as expected.

    Have a nice day.

    Best Regards,

    Molly

    Hi Molly,

    Thank you for your response.

Can you help suggest what logs we can view from the OS standpoint when the OS rejects the request ? Is there a specific Event ID that gets logged when the OS does not go for restart?

    Hello,

It seems the event log will only record the reboot behavior as information or error, it seems hard to determine the behavior of rejecting the requestor not.

    Best regards,

    Molly
