Network icon display

Hello All:

I am having a problem with windows server 2022. I have setup my domain as stoneandstone1.com. My domain has a static IP address and is using 127.0.0.1 as the preferred dns address. I have two ethernet ports and a NDIS Remote Internet Sharing port, which are both disabled.

When I log on to windows and go to the network icon, I see Network internet access when I move the mouse over the network icon. When I go and look at the adapter settings, I find that it is set to automatically obtain an IP address, when I  insert the static IP , subnet, gateway and DNS servers, the computer will display the stoneandstone1.com as the name of the network when I go to the network icon, I see that I am connected to stoneandstone1.com.

Once I reboot the machine, it goes back to Network, internet access and not stoneandstone1.com when I move the mouse over the network icon. I then go back to adapter settings and find that I have to either enable ethernet port 2 or 3, Remote Internet Sharing Device and once I enable either of those ports the network icon shows stoneandstone1.com as the network. Once I reboot the computer, the network icon displays Network, Internet Access once again.

I need to know what I have to do to get the computer to consistently display stoneandstone1.com as the network name and not Network Internet Access, thanks for any and all responses.

    Hi,

    Thanks for posting here.

Since the situation happens right after rebooting, we suspect this issue caused from DNS. Here`s few troubleshooting you might refer to:

Restart the DNS service: Restarting the DNS service on your server may help resolve any temporary issues. Open the "Services" console, locate the DNS service, and restart it.

Clear DNS cache: Open the Command Prompt as an administrator and run the following command: ipconfig /flushdns

Verify DNS settings: In the network adapter settings, set the preferred DNS server to the appropriate IP address. You mentioned using 127.0.0.1, which is the loopback address. If you're running a DNS server on the same machine, this should be fine. Otherwise, make sure to use the correct DNS server IP address provided by your DNS service provider.

Check network binding order: Windows uses a network binding order to determine the priority of network adapters. It's possible that the order is causing the issue. To adjust the network binding order, follow these steps:

Open "Network Connections" or "Network and Sharing Center."

Go to the "Advanced" menu and select "Advanced Settings."

In the "Adapters and Bindings" tab, make sure the network adapter you want to prioritize is listed first.

Please kindly inform if you`ve already tried with nothing happening, we will help to further the investigation.

    Best Regards,

    Karlie
