No Sound Before User Login

Hi,

I have a program that I scheduled it on the task scheduler to run at startup even before user login.

This setting is applied on 3 others computers for testing and it worked fine. All these computers were running Windows 10.

On another computer running windows 11 the program starts before user login, but there’s no sound only until I login. The sound starts immediately and in the middle of a song which proves that the program was already running and that the issue somewhere else..

All computers are on the latest Windows Updates.

I noticed that if i login and the sounds starts then I restart the pc the sound plays before login. But if i do a normal shutdown it wont. I enabled fast startup and tested, it worked. But i read that fast startup is basically hibernation. So the sound might play were in the middle and not from the beginning.

    Hello

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

It sounds like you're encountering a specific issue with Windows 11 that wasn't present in Windows 10. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the sound issue before user login:

Check Audio Services: Ensure that all necessary audio services are set to start automatically. You can do this by:

    • Pressing Win + R, typing services.msc, and pressing Enter.
    • Finding the services related to audio (e.g., Windows Audio, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder) and ensuring they are set to "Automatic".

Update Audio Drivers: Make sure your audio drivers are up to date. You can do this by:

    • Going to Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
    • Expanding the "Sound, video and game controllers" section.
    • Right-clicking your audio device and selecting "Update driver".

Disable Fast Startup: Since you mentioned that enabling fast startup helped, but it might not be ideal, you can try disabling it to see if it makes a difference:

    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
    • Click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable".
    • Uncheck "Turn on fast startup" and save changes.

Registry Edit: There might be a registry setting that needs adjustment. Be cautious with this step:

    • Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
    • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Audiosrv.
    • Ensure that the "Start" value is set to 2 (Automatic).

Check for Known Issues: There have been reports of audio issues with certain updates. Make sure your system is not affected by any known bugs.

Hey we try something similar with a Windows Service that starting automatically and function as normal even if no User is logged in after restart.
After the Start of the Service we play some Sounds and in some time intervals again. But the Sounds doesnt play if no User was logged in and the Windows 11 lock Screen is showing.
After we log in the Sounds in the Intervals play normaly.

We tried all fixes from Wei Li_1123 but no fix was a solution.

Sherif1231 you could solve the Problem? Or maybe someone other solved the Problem?

    Best regards Markus

This is a design change in Windows 11 and we have the same issue for some software (Panopto) that is used to record a lecture (I work at a University). The lectures are scheduled but the PC that is being used to do the recording will not record until after a user has logged on when it's first booted up. Your solution would be your own but people suggest things like kiosk and using autologon functions to work around this. This article for this specific utility that is affected by the change explains a little about the change...
