Hello,

I need help returning back to the main operating system (not the virtual disk installed one) The choose an operating system menu did not appear on the Windows Recovery Environment. I was dual booting Windows 10 Pro for Workstations using a VHDX, It was unbootable.

I tried that did not work:

Disabling Secure Boot

Using Bitlocker recovery keys

Accessing Startup settings

Using Command Prompt to access Windows 11 drive.

Thanks in advance!

My recovery key identification is different to the screen given here:

    Hello   HokkaidoLV1,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble returning to the main operating system. If the "Choose an operating system" menu did not appear on the Windows Recovery Environment, you may need to try a different method to return to your main operating system. Here are a few steps you can try:

    1. Use a Windows installation media to repair your main operating system. You can create a Windows installation media using the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's website.
    2. If you have a system image backup of your main operating system, you can use it to restore your system to a previous state.
    3. If you have a recovery drive for your main operating system, you can use it to boot your system and access the recovery options.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Haijian Shan

I do not have any installation media listed or anything. I also tried bcdedit. Both of the disks use GPT instead of MBR.

    Hello  HokkaidoLV1,

    Thank you for your reply.

If you do not have any installation media or recovery drive for your main operating system, you may need to contact your device manufacturer or Microsoft support for further assistance. They may be able to provide you with a recovery image or help you troubleshoot the issue further. Additionally, if you have any important data on your device, it is recommended to back it up before attempting any further troubleshooting steps.

    Best Regards,

    Haijian Shan
