Mapping with Group Policy sometimes disconnects

Question

Good morning,

I have a problem with the mappings made with group policy with server 2019 for all the PCs in my domain.

I have two servers (pprimary dc and secondary dc)

I don't have any problems but I notice that the mappings often disconnect from all the clients, but I don't know the real reason.

What I did:

-selected "reconnected" in the mapping GPOs

-in the dca server (where there is the server file) I set " net config server /autodisconnect:-1 to avoid client disconnection after 15 minutes

But I see that every now and then the clients lose the mapping.

The network is perfect and there are no problems on the clients or servers

Do you have any ideas?

To change the replication interval of Group Policy Objects (GPO), you can achieve this by editing the appropriate settings within the Group Policy Objects. Here are the specific steps:

1. Open "Group Policy Management":
   • On the domain controller, press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
   • Type gpmc.msc and press Enter to open "Group Policy Management Console".
2. Navigate to the GPO to be changed:
   • Expand the "Forest" and "Domains" nodes in the left pane.
   • Select the appropriate Organizational Unit (OU) containing the GPO you wish to change.
3. Edit the GPO:
   • In the right pane, right-click on the GPO to be edited and select "Edit".
4. Change the replication interval setting:
   • In the opened "Group Policy Management Editor" window, navigate to the following path: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Group Policy > Domain Controller
   • Locate the policy item named "Group Policy refresh interval for computers" and double-click to open it.
   • Select the "Enabled" option.
   • Enter the new replication interval value in the "Update interval (minutes)" field. The default value is 90 minutes.
   • Click "OK" to save the changes.

Yess you are right!

The problem is caused by replication interval of the GPO.

So when the group policies are updated the mapping is disconnected

How can I change the group policy refresh time?

Is it better to increase the time? (default 90 minutes) - how much?

Check the system and application logs on the client and server computers for any warnings or errors related to network drives, Group Policy processing, or network connectivity. These logs can provide clues to the root cause of the problem.

The main possibility is that there is a network problem.

1. Even if you mention that the network is perfect, intermittent network issues can still cause disconnections. Check for any temporary loss of connectivity or issues with the network switch/router.
2. Make sure the DNS is working properly. Name resolution issues can cause problems with drive mapping, especially in a domain environment.
3. High load on the file server can sometimes cause connections to drop. Monitor server performance, especially during peak hours.

By default, Group Policy Objects (GPOs) are refreshed every 90 minutes, with a random offset of up to 30 minutes. During this refresh, the network drive may be temporarily disconnected and reconnected. You need to determine if the disconnection coincides with these refresh cycles.

If the timing of the two coincides, you can try to solve the problem by changing the replication interval of the GPO.

If you're using a logon script to map drives in addition to GPO settings, make sure there are no conflicts between the two. Scripts may attempt to remap or disconnect the drive, causing intermittent access issues.
