Hi, I’m trying to retrieve my BitLocker recovery key. I have a student Microsoft account, but when I access the devices panel in MyAccount, it shows a blank screen with the message, "There are no devices to display." However, I can still see the devices I’ve used under my recent logins. Is it possible that my school has hidden my devices? Any help would be appreciated!

    Hello Enej Mlakar (G3B),

thank you for posting on the Microsoft Community Forums.

Yes, it's possible that your school's IT administration has certain configurations or policies in place that manage device visibility. Here are some steps you can take to try to retrieve your BitLocker recovery key despite this issue:

Step 1: Check Other Locations for BitLocker Recovery Key.

To do this, you can follow the steps in Find your BitLocker recovery key - Microsoft Support.

Step 2: Contact Your School's IT Department.

Given that you are using a student Microsoft account, your school's IT department might have access to the BitLocker recovery key. Please contact your school’s IT department or helpdesk. Explain that you need your BitLocker recovery key and cannot access it through the device panel.

Step 3: Verify Device Management Policies.

Given that your device panel shows a blank screen, it might be due to device management policies set by your school:

    1. Device Management Portal: Check if your school uses an alternative device management portal like Microsoft Endpoint Manager (formerly Intune). You might be able to access your BitLocker recovery key there.
    2. Azure Active Directory (Azure AD): If your device is managed via Azure AD, log into the Azure AD portal and check if there are any options for retrieving the BitLocker recovery keys.

Step 4: Attempt to Access Account via Different Network.

Sometimes network restrictions can cause issues:

    1. Use a Different Network: Try accessing your Microsoft account from a different network or from a different device to see if the issue persists.
    2. Check Browser Compatibility: Ensure you are using a compatible and updated web browser. Clear your browser cache and cookies as well.

    Hope it helps.

    Best regards,

    Lei
