Confused about Windows 10 File History backups

I set up the File History backup on my Windows 10 PC a few years ago to save the history info on my NAS. I think the save is working because I can see on the NAS my Documents folder structure and files like <filename>(<date and time>). But on the Windows 10 PC, when I use the "Previous Versions" tab in the File Properties it tells me "There are no previous versions available." If I click the History icon in the ribbon of File Manager, it tells me "File History is saving copies of your files for the first time." What is going wrong and how do I fix it?

Thanks

    Hello.

Based on the information you provided, If you are not using Windows Home Edition computer, I suggest you try to modify the group policy to see if the problem can be solved. Please refer to the following steps:

    1. Type Edit group policy in the search bar in the lower right corner of the computer and open it.
    2. Navigate to this location: Computer Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ Windows Components\File History
    3. Select File History on the left side of the window and double-click the Turn off File History policy to change it to disabled.

    Hello Zunhui,

Thank you for the suggestion. I am on Windows 10 Pro. I tried your suggestion anyway. It was set at “not configured” and I changed it to “disabled.” That didn’t help. The pc is still reporting “no previous versions” even though I can see them on the NAS.

    Hi ,

Thank you for your reply. I suggest you open the Service Manager to find the Volume Shadow Copy service and restart it to see if it can solve the problem:

Thank you for the suggestion. That didn't work either. I decided to delete all the present backups and start the file history process from scratch as though for the first time.
