Hello Sharice Jones,
thank you for posting on the Microsoft Community Forums.
When the Secure Boot policy changes unexpectedly, it can trigger BitLocker to ask for the recovery key. However, if the recovery key prompt only allows you to enter numbers and not letters, it can be quite frustrating. Here are some steps you can try to resolve it:
- Check the Keyboard Layout: Sometimes, the keyboard layout might be set to a different language or region, which can cause issues with entering the recovery key. Make sure the keyboard layout is set to the correct language.
- Use the Numeric Keypad: If your recovery key contains letters, try using the numeric keypad on your keyboard. Some systems allow you to enter letters by holding down the "Alt" key and typing the corresponding numeric code on the keypad.
- Access the Recovery Environment: If the above steps don't work, you might need to access the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). You can do this by restarting your computer and pressing the appropriate key (usually F8, F11, or Esc) to enter the recovery options. From there, you can try to enter the recovery key again.
- Use a Different Keyboard: If possible, try using a different keyboard to enter the recovery key. Sometimes, the issue might be related to the specific keyboard you're using.
Hope it helps.
Best regards,
Lei
