DPM 2022 RTM installation on Server 2022 and SQL Server 2022 fails

Hello community,

Hope I am posting in the correct forum.

I am trying to install DPM 2022 on Windows Server 2022 and an SQL 2022 server failover cluster. Just to make it clear, the DPM server is separate from the SQL cluster.

The documentation says that SQL 2022 is supported with DPM 2022 UR1, but there is no DPM 2022 _with_ URI built into the installation package. I suspect I need to install RTM, immediately followed by applying the latest UR, however I am yet to get to that point.

SSRS is installed and functional on the to-be DPM server.

I cannot get past the prerequisites check. It lists two errors:

  1. SQL Server Management Tools are not installed in the machine. Please install SQL Tools compatible with the installed SQL Server version.
  2. Microsoft System Center DPM 2022 Support Files are not installed on the SQL Server. Install SQL Prep from setup.exe located on the installation DVD or installation share and try again.

From the DPM documentation at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/system-center/dpm/prepare-environment-for-dpm?view=sc-dpm-2022 I gather that:

  1. I need to install SSMS on the DPM server. I tried versions 17, 19 and 20 - all failed to be detected by DPM, although all versions have successfully connected to my clustered SQL server instance. The document makes no mention of any other management components or client tools, and I can only assume that by "SQL Server Management Tools" it means SSMS as it it not spelled out.
  2. The article does not mention that SQL Prep needs to be installed on the SQL server.

Can you please help me with the following:

  1. What do I need to install and where for the SQL Server Management Tools test to pass?
  2. What do I need to install and where for the SCDPM Support Files test to pass? Do I need to run the DPM 2022 Setup.exe on both SQL cluster nodes and install "DPM Remote SQL Prep", which seems to be the closest match to what the error hints?

Thank you.

Thanks Molly. On the surface indeed it may look like it is an SQL question, however it has to do with installing DPM. I was hoping that someone has installed DPM 2022 in a similar environment and has some feedback. It is DPM not detecting prerequisites, as well as sketchy DPM documentation, so I don't know how the SQL forum can be helpful.

The question remains open as I am still waiting on clues on how to install _DPM 2022_.

    Thank you.
