Account Blocked – Critical Data Access Needed for BitLocker Recovery Key

Description of the problem: I restarted my laptop this morning as it was lagging, but to my surprise, I encountered a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error (screenshot attached). I waited for it to enter automatic repair mode, but instead, it prompted me to enter the BitLocker recovery key. Unfortunately, I do not have access to the key because of the following issue:

I have been using my laptop for the past four years with BitLocker enabled from the start. The Hotmail account used to enable BitLocker was my father’s, and his phone number was linked for account recovery. However, I am currently away from home, and my father no longer has access to his old phone or phone number.

When I attempt to log into the Hotmail account, I can see that the BitLocker recovery key is stored there, but I am unable to access the account as it is currently blocked. This has created a critical situation for me, as I cannot afford to lose my data. Resetting or reinstalling Windows is not an option, as it would lead to the permanent loss of important and irreplaceable files.

I understand that this situation may sound unusual, but I assure you it is entirely true. I am a university student, and without my laptop, almost all of my academic work has come to a standstill. I desperately need access to my device, and I sincerely request any possible assistance. Please help me—I cannot afford to lose my data.
Error message: Automatic Repair - Your PC did not start correctly

System Information:

  • Operating System: Windows 10
  • Device: ASUS Vivobook 15 (X513EP)
  • BitLocker encryption: Enabled
  • Microsoft Account: Hotmail account linked to Windows login

What I have already tried:

  • Attempted to recover my Hotmail account via the Microsoft account recovery page, but the process fails due to the phone number linked to the account no longer being in service.
  • Tried multiple methods to reset the account password, but none have been successful due to the account being blocked.
  • I have avoided resetting or reinstalling Windows to prevent the permanent loss of my critical data.

The preservation of my data is absolutely crucial. I would greatly appreciate any support you can offer to unlock my account or help me retrieve the BitLocker key without losing any of my files. (If you need I can provide the Recovery Key ID as well)

Hoping for your urgent assistance.

    Hello,

Unfortunately, you have to use a password or BitLocker recovery key to unlock your computer.

If you can't find it, reinstalling the system is the only way.

**Important:**Microsoft Support is unable to provide, or recreate, a lost BitLocker recovery key.

    Best Regards,

    Hania
