An error occurred while reconnecting to ... Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use

Hi,

We have a new (about 1 month old) Windows 11 pro computer connecting to a local verizon router via Wi-Fi. This computer connects to the remote business using SonicWall Global VPN Client. Within the business network we have a NAS (WD MyCloud PR4100). The windows 11 computer has 5 drives from the NAS mapped to it. This all seemed to work fine until about 2 weeks ago Windows started reporting the error:

"An error occurred while reconnecting to H: to \10.10.10.100\DriveName

Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use.

This connection has not been restored."

It seems as though the mapped drives are timing out (which from what I read is normal due to inactivity) but when Windows tries to reconnect, it doesn't recognize that they have timed out and instead reports that the device name is already in use?

To fix the issue we need to disconnect the VPN session and reconnect or reboot also works.

This does not happen to anyone running Windows 10.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thank you for your help!

-Leslie

    Hello,

It is recommended that you try to find the network credentials of the corresponding network share through the following methods, delete them, and finally remap the network drive.

1.To open Credential Manager, type credential manager in the search box on the taskbar and select Credential Manager Control panel.

2.Select Web Credentials or Windows Credentials to access the credentials you want to manage.

    Best regards

    Hi,

Thank you for your reply. Is your issue solved? If the computer saves the wrong network credentials, it may cause failure to successfully connect to the shared drive.
