Hello, I have written an Intel VT-x driver that works well on Windows 11 23h2 without any issues. However, after upgrading to Windows 11 24h2, the entire system freezes when I install the driver. I have removed most of the functional code and kept only the basic unconditional VM-exit, but it still freezes. My CPU model is Intel 14700k. What could be the reason for this?

    Hello

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

Driver Compatibility: The Windows 11 24H2 update might have introduced changes that affect how drivers interact with the system. It's possible that your driver needs to be updated to align with these changes.

CPU and Chipset Support: Ensure that your Intel 14700k CPU and the corresponding chipset drivers are fully compatible with Windows 11 24H2. Sometimes, updates can introduce new requirements or incompatibilities.

Hyper-V and VT-x Conflicts: Windows updates can sometimes alter the behavior of virtualization technologies. Check if there are any new settings or conflicts with Hyper-V or other virtualization features in Windows 11 24H2.

System Firmware and BIOS: Make sure your system's BIOS and firmware are up to date. Manufacturers often release updates to address compatibility issues with new OS versions.

Windows Update Issues: There have been reports of various driver-related issues following the Windows 11 24H2 update. You might want to check the Windows Update settings and ensure all updates have been applied correctly.

    To troubleshoot further, you could:

Check for Driver Updates: Visit the Intel website to see if there are any new drivers or patches available for your CPU and VT-x support.

Review Event Logs: Look at the Windows Event Viewer for any error messages or logs that might give more insight into what's causing the freeze.

Test in Safe Mode: Try installing the driver in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if other software or drivers are causing conflicts.

If the problem continues, you might consider reaching out to Intel support for more detailed assistance.

    Best Regards,

    Wesley Li
