Hi,

I have a problem with one of our Windows 11 23H2 computer who can not sync its Work Folders folder.

I got the event log message

Event-ID: 2100, WorkFolders

Sync failed. Work Folders path: C:\Users\user\Work Folders; Error: (0x80c81003) The argument is out of range.

on the server side (Windows Server 2016) the syncshare event log shows the same event.

Event-ID 4020, SyncShare

Http request failed. User: user@domain; Device: HOSTNAME; DeviceOS: Windows 10.0; Request: Put-Knowledge; Error code: (0x80c81003) The argument is out of range.

currently I run out of ideas what the reason could be.

kind regards ... Sven

    Hello,

To troubleshoot this issue, we'll need to gather more information and perform some diagnostic steps.

Could you check if the user's account is properly configured for accessing Work Folders? Specifically, ensure that the user account has the necessary permissions and is correctly enrolled in the Work Folders service.

Are there any network connectivity issues between the Windows 11 23H2 computer and the Windows Server 2016 where the Work Folders are hosted?

Could you check if there are any pending updates or patches for both the Windows 11 23H2 computer and the Windows Server 2016? Sometimes, issues with syncing can be resolved by ensuring that both systems are fully up-to-date.

Have you tried restarting the Work Folders service on both the Windows 11 23H2 computer and the Windows Server 2016? Sometimes, a simple restart of the service can resolve synchronization issues.

    Regards,

    Karlie

    Hello Karlie,

Could you check if the user's account is properly configured for accessing Work Folders? Specifically, ensure that the user account has the necessary permissions and is correctly enrolled in the Work Folders service.

... the account has all required permission to get Work Folders service running ...

Are there any network connectivity issues between the Windows 11 23H2 computer and the Windows Server 2016 where the Work Folders are hosted?

... no network issues between the two devices ... when another user logging in to that computer (some permission) Work Folders is running without issues

Could you check if there are any pending updates or patches for both the Windows 11 23H2 computer and the Windows Server 2016? Sometimes, issues with syncing can be resolved by ensuring that both systems are fully up-to-date.

... the computer is fresh and clean installed. No pending updates or patches.

Have you tried restarting the Work Folders service on both the Windows 11 23H2 computer and the Windows Server 2016? Sometimes, a simple restart of the service can resolve synchronization issues.

... I have restarted the client computer as well as the Work Folders service ... on the server the same.

The problem is that for this specific error code I can't find any kind of description. There are error codes for permission failures, reparse point, but the error code seems to be not existing.

    kind regards ... Sven

    Hello,

Carefully inspect the contents of the user's Work Folder for any problematic files (e.g., very large files, files with invalid characters, long paths). Temporarily move such files out of the folder to see if synchronization resumes.
