Windows 11 can't logon as new User

Hello together,

I have 3 brand new laptops, identical and all having the same Problem: it's impossible to logon as a new user for some reason.

The "Logon as another User" button is missing, both in the Windows logon screen and when clicking on the User symbol.

The devices must join an Entra-ID/Azure-AD domain, which is impossible to do without this feature (as far as I’m aware).

A new local user can be logged in, which doesn’t really help.

Infos:

-OS: Windows 11 Pro (23H2, build 22631.3593)

-Device: Lenovo ThinkPad E16 Gen 1 (Prod Nr: 21JT000FGE)

-The OS is in German, so exact paths may vary.

What I've tried so far:

  1. Deactivating fast Logon via "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\HidefastUserSwitching" (no matter if the DWORD is set to 0 and 1)
  2. Deactivating fast Logon via Control Panel -> Users
  3. Logging in via Windows Settings -> Accounts ->
  4. Running Updates (Windows, Drivers...)
  5. Creating local test Users
  6. Plenty of restarts in between

Any ideas on a solution?

Thank you for your time,

-Jonas U.

    Hello Jonas U.,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

1.What do you mean "The "Logon as another User" button is missing"? Do you mean "Switch User" button?

2.Based on "it's impossible to logon as a new user for some reason.", did you receive any error message?

3.Can you logon as a new user before the devices joined to Entra-ID/Azure-AD domain?

4.Based on "it's impossible to logon as a new user for some reason.", do you mean local user on machine or Azure AD domain user?

If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Daisy Zhou

    Hello,

yes, it seems to either be a Windows Update or a broken Lenovo Service, since even when connecting to a local domain there was no change.

The Lenovo Apps were the only thing not reinstalled after resetting, so my guess is they broke something with one of their new AI Bloatware Apps.

I've never seen anything like this, further testing was sadly not possible since I was working with a rather tight deadline, so this is the only solution I could find to meet the deadline.

    Kind Regards,

    -Jonas U.

    Hello Daisy Zhou,

    Thank you for your reply.

    To Answer your Questions:

    1. Yes, I mean the "Switch User" button, it's named a little different in German as it seems
    2. There is no error massage, as there is no way of starting the process of logging into a new user
    3. The device has not yet joined the Entra-ID/Azure-AD domain, as you would usually do that by logging in with an Office Account
    4. Local users are possible to be logged into since they show up as a direct user login. Users that are not located on the machine itself don’t show up as they’ve never been logged into on the device.

    Kind Regards,

    -Jonas U.

    Hello again,

The only solution was resetting the OS, it now works, even though this was the "last resort" option.

    Kind Regards,

    -Jonas U.

    Hello

    Good day!

So the problem occurs on only one Win 11 machine and now you resolved it by resetting the OS, am I right?

If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,
    Daisy Zhou
