Locked out of Windows 11 by Bitlocker. Cannot access the Bitlocker password because I did not even know about it until today. Not listed on my Microsoft account page and I did not even know about this 2 years ago to make a copy of the pw. Following directions from other sites, I attempted to create a thumb drive and upload Windows 11 via the directions. In the Windows Setup, I search the ESD-USB(C:) drive and get the following message "No signed device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contain the correct drivers, and then click OK". I have attempted to load the recommended drivers and Windows 11 from my thumb drive but IDK what I am doing wrong. I am resigned to losing all the files on the laptop but I would just like to get it working again.

    Hello scottie pottie,

    I'm sorry to hear that.

To reinstall Windows 11, it’s important to ensure that the installation media is correctly created. Here’s how:

    1. Download the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool: Download Windows 11 [291f-5ff5-142-2e20] (microsoft.com).
    2. Create the Installation Media: Select "Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC", then follow the instructions to create a bootable USB drive with Windows 11.
    3. Plug the USB drive into your laptop, boot Menu / BIOS Settings: Look for a boot order or boot priority menu and set the USB drive to be the first boot device. Then your laptop should boot from the USB drive and start the Windows 11 installation process.

Since you encounter the "No signed device drivers were found" error during installation, try the following steps to resolve it:

    1. Check USB Port: Sometimes, using a different USB port (especially switching between USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports) can resolve the issue.
    2. Recreate Installation Media: Make sure the Windows 11 ISO image was fully downloaded and the creation process was not interrupted.
    3. Load Drivers Manually:
      • If the error persists, you might need to download some specific drivers (like storage or USB drivers) for your laptop model from the manufacturer’s website.
      • Place these drivers on a separate USB drive.
      • When you reach the driver error screen, plug in the USB drive with the drivers and click "Load driver" to manually browse and load them.

    Hope it helps.

    Best regards,

    Lei
