Broadcom E-Series dual 10gb sfp+ daughter board not recieving packets after upgrade to Windows Server 2022 LTSC from 2019 LTSC

This is such an odd fault.

I have a Dell R640 with the above nic setup, it worked perfectly from simple installation of 2019, the nics worked as expected.

NIC1 is connected to a core switch by optical sr module.

NIC2 is back linked to an identical server with identical hardware and problem.

Server1

  • Vanilla installation of server 2022, not inplace upgrade.
  • Fully patched with windows updates Jan24.
  • The firmware for the nics have been updated Dec23.
  • The drivers have been updated from Dells website Jan24.
  • I've disabled VMQ on the nics in question and rebooted.
  • If I disable and enable the nics in Windows and check the log on the core switch it doesn't flag a change in connection.
    • However, if I reboot the server I can see the nics disconnecting and reconnecting in the switch log.
    • The switch it's attached to is a Extreme Networks Black Diamond 8100.
  • When the server was installed with 2019 it worked perfectly from a basic installation with the 2019 ISO.

Any advice welcome.

    Hi,

    Thanks for posting!

It seems like you're experiencing connectivity issues with the NICs on your Dell R640 server after upgrading to Windows Server 2022.

Have you ever tested with different switch ports? If possible, try connecting the server to different ports on the switch to see if the issue persists. This can help identify if the problem is specific to the switch port or the server NICs.

And could you help to share the event log mentioned which might give us some hints.

    Best Regards,

    Karlie

Hi! Had almost the same connectivity issues with the NICs on our Dell R730 server using Windows Server 2019. We had multiple server down time. Already tested with different switch ports, all of them working and plugged in to same core switch but still, the issue persists. The warning is Event 252.

Might help: Dell R730's driver version is Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet 17.2.1.0
