If I replace the boot hard drive for a server running Windows server 2016 will I have to repurchase the server 2016 license and also our RDP licenses?

The boot drive failed on a server running Windows server 2016 and it seems the cheapest fix would be to just replace the failing drive but I'm wondering if we'd have to purchase the server license again. We also purchased several RDP licenses for our employees to remote into it, would we have to purchase those again?

The server is a Dell Poweredge T330 and it has 4 hard drives in total, but the one it uses to boot is failing. It gives SMART predictive failure.

    Hi Jared Dick1,

you will not have to repurchase a new license for your Windows Server 2016 after replacing the boot hard drive. But you may need to reactivate your system.

As for your question about RDP license, it is recommended that repost your question under the pod "Windows server/ User Experience" because it is out of my scope.

    Hope it helps.

    Best regards,

    Lei
