Why will my zip file not allow me to access my links and view the files uploaded?

I have downloaded a zip file that contains a portfolio in it for nursing school. Once downloaded, it will allow me to open the file and see the pages but it will not allow access to the links on those pages to then give my teacher access to my submitted files. It is very confusing and I just do not know how to access my links in the zip file itself. Every time I click on a link it says, "your file could not be accessed." Not sure what the solution is but I need help! How do I make it to where I can access and see those files I uploaded?

I am a nursing student that is working on an ePortfolio and after downloading it as a Zip file it will now allow me to access the links to the files that I uploaded. What do I need to do in order to access the links on the zip file?

    Hello

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

The issue you’re experiencing is likely due to the fact that the files you’re trying to access through the links are still compressed within the zip file. When you click a link in a document within a zip file, the system tries to find the linked file in its original location, but can’t because it’s still compressed.

Here’s how you can resolve this issue:

Extract the zip file: Before you can access the files, you need to extract them from the zip file. You can do this by right-clicking the zip file and selecting "Extract All". Make sure to extract the files to a location you can easily find.

Open the extracted files: After the files have been extracted, navigate to the location where you extracted them and open the file containing the links. Now, when you click the links, they should work because the files are in their expected locations.

The links in your documents are relative to the location of the document itself. If the linked files are moved or deleted, or if the document is moved to a different location without the linked files, the links will no longer work. So, it’s important to keep the structure of your files the same as it was when you created the links.

    Best Regards,

    Wesley Li
