Is it possible to implement an administrator policy, so that I can choose whether or not to install the updates offered by Windows Update, as it was the case in previous Windows versions ?

Ref: Update = 2025-01 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 for and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 24H2 for x64 systems (KB5049622)

Ref: LG Gram laptop model: 17Z90S - G AD79F - Intel(R) Core(TM) Ultra 7 155H 3.80 GHz - 32.0 GB (31.5 GB usable) - 64-bit operating system, x64 processor - Windows 11 Professional - 24H2 build 26100.2894 - Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.36.0

Good morning,

This update (KB5049622) causes my laptop to freeze after a few minutes of use.

I uninstalled it the first time and paused the updates and everything worked normally again.

However, by reactivating updates today, this update, (KB5049622), was reinstalled and the problem reappeared and this time persists even after uninstallation!

To correct it, I restarted my PC in safe mode (with a lot of difficulty due to Windows Hello which I finally deactivated...), and I moved the folder corresponding to the update (KB5049622) which was located in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution, and it seems to have succeeded as since my PC no longer freezes.

On the other hand, I suspended the updates to avoid re-issuing the error!

Is it possible to implement an administrator policy, so that I can choose whether or not to install the updates offered by Windows Update, as it was the case in previous Windows versions ?

Sincerely,
Michael

    Hello,

If you have Windows 10/11 Pro or above, you can use Group Policy Editor and then go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Updates > Configure Automatic Updates and then set that to Disabled.

Let me know how this goes.

    Hello,

I went to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Updates > manage end user experience > Configure Automatic Updates and set to disable then go reactivate windows update but KB5049622 came back again.
Also despite I suspend it right away in the process it was installed anyway. So I have reiterated my solution.

    Hello,

    I apologize for the error.

Please try using the Windows Update Troubleshooter by downloading it from here. Once you have downloaded wushowhide.diagcab, launch it, and then once you have the option, hide the update that you don't want installed (which would be KB5049622).

This will prevent Windows from discovering the update and won't update it.

Let me know how this goes.

The wushowhide.diagcab didn't found any update to hide and I think this is because I have suspended windows update, and KB5049622 will resettle right away if not.

I went also to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Updates > manage end user experience > Configure Automatic Updates and set to option 2 - notify automatic downloads and installations and found it correctly set in the registry, but once again when going to reactivate windows update KB5049622 came back.
