    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

Based on the description, I understand your question is related to Server 2008.

Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 ended on Jan 14, 2020. After this date, these products will no longer receive security updates, non-security updates, bug fixes, technical support, or online technical content updates. It is recommended to upgrade to latest server version to receive support.

    Have a nice day.

    Best Regards,

    Molly

Unfortunately, since that Server OS was generally end-of-life in 2020, those patches are no longer hosted on Microsoft's servers for download by the public. Unless you have a specific use case to run an outdated Server OS, it is highly recommended to update to the latest. I have a copy of that patch uploaded to my site that you can download to see if it resolves or minimizes the problem.

It appears the version of msahci.sys you have installed after applying SP1 supersedes KB977178. So the cause of your BSOD probably lies elsewhere. If you believe the problem is related to the AHCI driver you can see if your OEM offers alternate drivers. For example, AMD and Intel have their own AHCI drivers that might be used instead of the Microsoft one.

You can also go through the suggestions in this old Community post covering a lot of other possibilities for this error.
