I installed a windows server 22 evall on a virtual machine (Oracle VM) on my Windows10 PC. the first attempt worked. But then I had to delete that server in order to allocate more disk. The new installation failed, as the system did not recognize the provided licence key.

    Hi Fabio Saba

Windows Server 2022 Evaluation has an activation period of 180 days, and if you want to extend the activation period, you can reset the activation status with the following command:

    slmgr.vbs /rearm

This command allows you to restart the 180-day activation period, but only 6 times, which means you can extend the activation period by up to 1080 days. If you have already used the reset command 6 times, you cannot activate the Windows Server 2022 Evaluation edition again, and you will need to purchase a product key for the official version to activate the system.

    Hope it helps.

    Regards,

    Lei

    Hello Lei Tao

Thanks a lot for your suggestion, I appreciate. I tried to enter the command in my PC cmd command line, but it did not have any effect on the installation of the virtual machine. I suppose this command works only when the virtual server is already up. To be precise I use Oracle Virtual Box, as the Microsoft Hypervisor Manager does not show up on my Windows 10 PC because it is the home edition.

    Kind regards

    Fabio Saba

    Hi Fabio Saba

Yes, this command works only when the VM is already up. For Windows 10 and later, you can usually skip the entry of the activation key by selecting the "I don't have a product key" or "Do this later" option during the installation process. Then you can enter your product key and activate Windows by selecting Update & Security from the system settings and then selecting Activation after the installation is complete. If the key is expired, you may need to buy new one.

Or you can run the command "SLUI 4" in VM. This command is used to launch the Windows Activation Wizard, which guides you through activating Windows by phone.

    Lei

    Dear Lei,

I have a windows server 2022 evaluation server completed 170 days. I tried slmgr /rearm and restarted the server, i could see only the rearm extended for 10 days only and not 180 days.

    Any suggestion / advice .

    Best Regards

    Hi S Japerumal,

the "slmgr /rearm" command can only be used up to 3 times on an evaluation copy of Windows Server. Each time you use the command, it will extend the evaluation period by an additional 10 days. After the third time, the evaluation period cannot be extended any further.

If you have already used the "slmgr /rearm" command three times, then unfortunately, you will not be able to extend the evaluation period any further. At this point, you will need to either purchase a license for Windows Server or reinstall the operating system.

    Regards,

    Lei
