Hi
Does the Server 2012 and Server 2019 share the same server name?
Can you connect to printer on 2k19 using its Ip address?
Thanks,
Karlie

trying to migrate printers from Server 2012(A) to Server 2019(B) and decommission 2012. in the process all clients need to still point to old server name with dns record.
1.Exported from 2k12 and Imported printers on 2k19 and tested.
2.Shutdown 2k12 server and removed from domain.
3.created DNS alias to point to 2k19 server.
4.can ping old name to 2k19 server ip.
Can't connect to printer on 2k19 any longer using old name
Any ideas why it's not working.
Thank In advance.

Server 2019 is server B and 2012 is server A. we shutdown server A, removed it from AD and dns and then created a dns record to point its name to Server B. I did not try connecting by IP. Server A does resolve to Server B IP.
Hello
You may consider below steps to perform some basic checks:

Karlie
So, I tried again this weekend. shutdown old server. deleted out of DNS and waiting. removed from AD. Created CNAME and waiting to replicate.
Can ping old server name and resolves to new one. Can RDP using old name.
When i go to print It errors out saying "operation could not complete. The specified printer has been deleted"
tried to remove and add printer with old name and does not work. I get "windows couldn't connect to the printer. check the printer name and try again"
I can add by using ip address and printer.
Hello
The ability to RDP using the old server name, add printers using the IP address, and successfully ping the old server name, which resolves to the Server 2019's IP address, demonstrates that DNS resolution and fundamental network connectivity are operating as expected.
Have you ensured that the printer drivers on Server B match those on Server A? Additionally, it's essential to confirm whether the port configurations and drivers on the client machines align with the settings of the new server.

Karlie
