I understand that we can upgrade from Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard to Windows Server 2016 Standard. Do we need new CALs to upgrade?

I can download the software; but, cannot find where to buy new CALs for Server 2016.

    Yes, you will need to purchase new CALs for Windows Server 2016 if you plan to upgrade from Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard. CALs are not included with the server software and must be purchased separately. You can purchase CALs through Microsoft Volume Licensing or from a Microsoft reseller.
