Removing Former Organisation From Personal MS Account

Hello everyone! When it comes to coding and data mining, I pride myself at being savvy! But for Azure or AD or some of the other deep technical offers by MS, I can admit that I am not so savvy! So this request that I have will be simple for someone out there! Here is what I am trying to do (and maybe this request has been made many times already, but have already admitted that I am not very savvy, so I am having a hard time following the solution I need):

Apparently some years ago, I (foolishly) added an organisation I worked for to my personal MS account and never took it off. Since then I have an Azure profile with a subscription and still never removed the former organisation from my personal MS profile.

I am no longer with the organisation (and haven't been for years). I show as the admin (because in an article that I tried to follow the instructions listed out in that article on "leaving an organisation that is tied to a personal account"), my account is shown with the email address "admin@(the name of the organisation).microsoft.com". Not to mention when I attempt to leave the organisation it says, "Because you are the last admin in this organization (tenant), you’re not allowed to leave it. You’ll need to delete this tenant instead". Also not to mention in my Azure profile there is reference to the AD of this former organisation.

Ultimately I just want to "leave the organisation" so that the organisation's name isn't listed under my personal MS account and hopefully keep my Azure profile and its subscription intact in the process! If that is not possible and I have to start over again with a new account, I'd hate it, but so be it! I hope I explained everything properly from a nontechnical perspective! Thank you advance for the individual(s) who will be helping me! Be Blessed

    Hi KelvinA-Win7,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community Forums.

    I. Confirming Identity and Privileges

First, ensure that you are currently logged into the Microsoft account associated with the organization.

Since you are shown as an administrator, you should have sufficient permissions to perform subsequent actions. Note, however, that these actions may be irreversible, so use caution before proceeding.

II.Unassociating Azure Subscriptions from Organizations (if applicable)

If your Azure subscription is associated with the organization, you may need to unassociate it first. This can usually be done in the Azure Management Portal, and the exact steps may vary depending on the version of Azure and interface updates.

Before de-associating, make sure you have understood the associated billing and service implications.

    III Deleting Azure AD tenants

Since you are the last administrator of the organization and cannot leave the organization, you may need to delete the entire Azure AD tenant. This is an important step because it will permanently remove all data and services associated with that tenant.

Before performing this action, be sure to back up all important data and notify all affected users.

The steps to delete an Azure AD tenant are as follows:

Log in to the Azure Management Portal.

Navigate to the “Azure Active Directory” service.

Select “Tenant Management” or a similar option in the left menu (the exact name may vary depending on the Azure version).

Locate the tenant associated with the organization you want to delete and select the Delete option.

You may be asked to confirm the deletion and enter some verification information. Follow the prompts to complete the operation.

    Best regards

    Neuvi
