If DISM and SFC were successful without any errors logged, you should be able to uninstall and install the server backup components without error. Did you also perform a check disk of C: at any point to resolve any possible file/directory issues? If you continue to receive the same errors, I would suspect some other fault with the OS that will be logged in your Event logs It would make no sense to get the same errors or no additional errors after. Check to see if there are any GPO, I/O errors (RAM/controller/hard drive), permission issues (file/registry) with admin accounts, or third-party apps that could inhibit proper installation. If you cannot locate any errors then I suggest you perform a reinstall/migration of the OS.
