Regarding Windows 11 In-Place Upgrade for AVD

I am an AVD administrator, managing multiple Windows 10 single-session instances.

The instance size is B4ms.

Is in-place upgrade to Windows 11 not possible for B4ms?

I removed the instances from WSUS management and accessed Windows Update via the internet, but the Windows 11 update did not appear.

Due to budget constraints, we would like to avoid changing the instance size, so I wanted to consult about this issue.

I appreciate your support.

    Hi ryosk25,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A Platform! Thank you for asking your question here.

We understand from your query that you are experiencing an issue while trying to upgrade the Instance from B4ms to Windows 11

    • But B4ms series does not have official support for Windows 11.
    • If you have removed the instances from WSUS (Windows Server Update Services) management and are now attempting to access Windows Update through the internet, yet the Windows 11 update is still not visible on your B4ms VM, several factors may be contributing to this issue.
    • First, confirm that your B4ms VM is operating on a version of Windows 10 that qualifies for an upgrade to Windows 11, Therefore, it is advisable to check the compatibility of the Azure VM series with Windows 11. Generally, D-series, E-series, or FS-series VMs are more suitable for running Windows 11.

Here are the minimum hardware requirements for Windows 11:

    1. 64-bit processor with at least 1 GHz clock speed and 2 or more cores
    2. 4 GB of RAM or more
    3. 64 GB of storage or more
    4. DirectX 12 compatible graphics / WDDM 2.x
    5. UEFI firmware with Secure Boot capability
    6. TPM version 2.0
    7. Internet connection and Microsoft account for setup
