While installing the NVIDA extension on VM getting exceptions

We have created one VM with N-series and we expecting GPU should be available .But after installing the extension on VM getting exception of NVIDA.

So we need help on this case.

Hi Sajjad Ahmad,

Can you specify on which vm SKU you are installing NVIDIA drivers and what exact errors you are getting?

Were you able to see the extension installed on the Extensions blase like below?

If you are using NC24ads A100 v4 VM, a similar issue is handled by Korey here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/2180437/how-to-fix-no-gpu-issue-with-nc-series-on-azure-vm

The root of the issue appears to be that while the driver install process is successful, the enable process is not. Edit (3/13/25): The fix is live, and you should now be able to deploy the NVIDIA GPU driver extension without issue.

As a temporary workaround, you can try GRID drivers instead of CUDA drivers. For installing GRID Drivers on NC SKU VMs, you need to use Azure CLI and an ARM template.

Hi Mounika,

Here you can see the VM series and specifcation (Standard NV4as v4 (4 vcpus, 14 GiB memory))

After installing the extension getting following erorr

{"code":"VMExtensionProvisioningError","message":"VM has reported a failure when processing extension 'NvidiaGpuDriverLinux' (publisher 'Microsoft.HpcCompute' and type 'NvidiaGpuDriverLinux'). Error message: 'NVIDIA GPU not found on this VM size: standard_nv4as_v4'. More information on troubleshooting is available at https://aka.ms/VMExtensionNvidiaGpuDriverLinuxTroubleshoot. "}

This series NC24ads i have not found under subscription sizes ? . Maybe due to region its not showing to us . In which region these series are available ? Can you suggest now accordingly ? where is the problem ? Thanks, Sajjad Ahmad

The NVv4-series virtual machines are powered by AMD Radeon Instinct MI25 GPUs and AMD EPYC 7V12(Rome) CPUs with a base frequency of 2.45GHz, all-cores peak frequency of 3.1GHz and single-core peak frequency of 3.3GHz. With NVv4-series Azure is introducing virtual machines with partial GPUs. Pick the right sized virtual machine for GPU accelerated graphics applications and virtual desktops starting at 1/8th of a GPU with 2 GiB frame buffer to a full GPU with 16 GiB frame buffer. NVv4 virtual machines currently support only Windows guest operating system.

This is the reason after installing the extension getting following error and suggests using a supported VM size and OS.

If your application requires NVIDIA GPUs, you need to switch to an NC, ND, or NV (except NVv4) series VM that includes an NVIDIA GPU. Deploy an NVv2, NVv3, NC, or ND series VM, and then install the NvidiaGpuDriverLinux extension.

If you cannot find the NC24ads_A100_v4 VM size under your subscription, it may be due to regional availability constraints. Azure offers different VM sizes in specific regions, and not all sizes are available in every region.

If the NC24ads_A100_v4 VM NC_A100_v4 sizes series isn't available in your region, consider deploying your workloads in a region where it's supported or selecting an alternative VM size that meets your requirements.https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/explore/global-infrastructure/products-by-region
