Hello All,

Is there a way to convert a Shared channel to Standard channel in Teams by Owner or from Teams admin center

If not is there any work around to create new standard channel with same name and move all the files from Shared channel to this new standard channel and delete the Shared channel.

    @Mani

    There isn’t any built‐in way to convert a shared channel into a standard channel either through the Teams client, Teams admin center, or by using PowerShell. The channel types are implemented differently—with shared channels designed for cross-boundary collaboration and standard channels typically serving team members only—which is why a conversion option isn’t supported.

    If you really need to have a standard channel with the same name and files currently stored in the shared channel, the general workaround would be:

    1. Create a new standard channel (with the desired name) in your team.
    2. Manually move or copy the files from the shared channel to the new standard channel.

      • Since channel files are stored in associated SharePoint document libraries, you might need to go to the files tab in the shared channel, open the SharePoint site, and then copy or sync the files over to the library location corresponding to the new standard channel.

    1. Note that only files can be moved – conversations, tabs, or settings within the shared channel cannot be migrated automatically.
    2. Once you’ve confirmed that everything has been successfully moved, you can delete the shared channel if it’s no longer needed.
