i am trying to migrate my 2016 server essentials to new hardware (& possibly upgrade to 2019)

i have installed 2019 a few times trying different things to get into migration mode, i just went back to 2016 essentials to see if it was different, but it just installs - no option for the type of install

are the ISO's different? i.e. they say 'refresh' in ISO name

how do i install either 1 in migration mode?

    Hello,

    Differences Between ISOs

The ISOs labeled as "refresh" typically include updates and patches that were released after the original version. However, the core functionality, including the installation process, should remain the same.

    Installing in Migration Mode

For both Windows Server Essentials 2016 and 2019, the process to install in migration mode involves a few specific steps:

    Prepare Your Source Server:

Ensure your current server is healthy and up-to-date.

Run the Migration Preparation Tool on your Source Server.

Install Windows Server Essentials on the Destination Server:

Insert the Windows Server Essentials DVD or USB into the new hardware.

    Boot from the installation media.

Follow the prompts to start a new installation.

During the installation, you should see an option to install in migration mode. If this option is not appearing, ensure you are using the correct installation media and that your Source Server is properly prepared.

    Post-Installation Steps:

Join the Destination Server to the existing domain.

Transfer FSMO roles and other necessary configurations from the Source Server to the Destination Server.

    Have a nice day.

    Best Regards,

    Hania Lian
