You can use the reverse process for moving the WID to SQL Server
WSUS Database
Hi All,
I have inherited a WSUS infrastructure that appears to be rather disjointed, basically, we have various DB which are WID and SQL all the SQL WSUS DB's live on a SQL server.
What I need to do is move some of the SQL WSUS DB's of the SQL servers because they are W2008 and are being decommissioned. I would like to move the DB's to the WSUS servers but I don't have SQL on them and management don't want to install another instance of SQL on the WSUS server.
I guess my question is there a way of moving the DB's over to the WSUS Servers and converting them to a WID DB?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards.

Thanks for your posting on Q&A.
I have not found an official article which provide the step to migrate WSUS DB from SQL to WID. I would recommend you to add a new WSUS server as an intermediate conversion. You may consider of follow below steps to move WSUS DB from SQL back to WID:
- Add a new WSUS server, and configure it as downstream server in Replica Mode.
- After completing the DB replication, change the new WSUS server from downstream to upstream(Synchronize updates from Microsoft Update)
- Replace the FQDN of the new WSUS server with the old one(The clients which pointed to the old WSUS Server will scan for updates and report from the new WSUS)
Hope the above will be helpful. If there are any updates about this issue, please feel free to let me know.
Thanks for your time and have a nice.
Best Regards,
Rita
