I had the same issue. On an HP Elitbook, I overcame it by going into the BIOS, Security > "Reset fingerprint on reboot". After that I was able to setup fingerprint once again.

When I try to use Fingerprint recognition, there have some issue when I record fingerprint. It's pop-up with " reached the 10 fingerprint max for this account". I already try to clear the data inside C:\Windows\System32\WinBioDatabase, but it's still not work.

Support Services 0 Reputation points2026-01-29T19:45:29.2566667+00:00 same issue, no resolution. Deleted all .dat in WinBioDatabase folder also cleared TPM, rebooted, uninstalled finger print scanner, reinstalled, repeated deleting .dat's and tpm clear, reboot, still buggered.

Based on the description, I understand your question is related to Windows 11 Sign-in fingerprint.
Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\WinBioDatabase and deleting all files in the folder. Then, restart your computer and try to register your fingerprints again.
Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Biometrics and make sure that the Allow users to log on using biometrics policy is enabled.
Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options, locate the Fingerprint recognition option, and click on Remove. After that, click on Get started and follow the on-screen instructions to reset fingerprint recognition.
Visit the manufacturer's website and downloading the latest drivers for your fingerprint sensor.

2025-04-08T00:48:27.61+00:00 I have the same issue. I've tried every trick suggested on the internet, including your instructions. None of them work. I had a lengthy chat with a Windows "expert" who was unable to resolve the issue. When are we going to get a real answer that actually solves the problem? It seems pretty obvious there's a little file somewhere that contains the biometric data. I had two files in the WinBioDatabase folder. One I deleted and am unable to delete the other as the system says it is "in use." I assume that's the PIN data since that's what I'm using. If it's the fingerprint data, how do I delete it?

I also could not delete the file in the WinBioDatabase folder, with the "in use" error. One additional detail, for years my computer seems to stop recognizing my fingerprint after a few months. I remove the fingerprint data and learn it again. I have done this many times, more than 10. Now it does not work, and I get the 10 fingerprint max error. 11/19/25 see answer from Elio Coutinho below.

2025-11-20T10:49:57.4833333+00:00 Thanks Molly, I had already done tried all of those. There wasn't a Remove option on Figerprint sign-in setup, the only option was to set new fingerprints. When I did that, the 10 max error occurred. The solution was to reset fingerprint in the BIOS.
