Hello all,

I am writing on behalf of a user who gets the 'digital signature on this message can't be verified' error from a certain Gmail sender. It occurs in the new Outlook, classic Outlook and the web version. That typically indicates the certificate is invalid/expired/corrupt. However his team uses the same Outlook, with the same configurations but receive the sender's emails just fine without an error. What could be the issue?

Troubleshooting attempts:

  • We ran a repair/reinstalled Office.
  • Windows updates are good to go.
  • He is using the latest version of Office.
  • Ran ScanPST (even though I knew it wouldn't help).
  • Added the sender to Safe Senders.
  • Turned on these options from the new Outlook app: User's image

Elected to trust it from classic Outlook:

  • User's image
  • Even tried this extension in Chrome which ultimately did not help: User's image

He is going to observe what happens next time they send an email after those changes. In the meantime, do you have other ideas? Thank you so much.

    Hi @Erika Velasquez ,

    Welcome to our forum!

    What's your account?

However his team uses the same Outlook, with the same configurations but receive the sender's emails just fine without an error.

Do you mean that you and his team received the same email?

Please refer to this official article: Verify the digital signature on a signed email message.

On the other hand, i found a similar thread mentioned that:

Use the Contacts feature. To do this, follow these steps: Use Outlook to open a digitally signed message from a sender who is not in your Address Book>In the From: line, right-click the sender's name, and then select Add to Outlook Contacts>In the Contact window, select Certificates in the Show group>Verify the public key certificate for the contact>Select Save & Close>Use the Contacts feature to add the user to a list of email message recipients that includes the distribution group. To do this, follow these steps>In Outlook, select New, select Mail Message, and then select To>Under Address Book, select Contacts>Double-click the user whom you want to add.

    Hope the above help!
